Pre-Selling The Key To Effective Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a successful business model if done right. An important component of affiliate marketing is pre-selling. In fact, pre-selling is central to affiliate marketing. It involves establishing a trusting relationship with your web site visitors and getting them in a ready-to-buy frame of mind before you send them to a merchant's product sale page.

Unfortunately, pre-selling is also one of the most misunderstood and underestimated skills of the affiliate marketer. One of the biggest mistakes new affiliate marketers make is trying to make the sale themselves when really, that is the job of the merchant.

The function of the affiliate marketer is different from the merchant. You, the affiliate, must PRE-sell. The merchant sells. Your job is to get targeted traffic and put them in a buying state so that when they do arrive at the merchants site (through your affiliate link, of course), they are receptive to the merchants product offering.

The secret about pre-selling is in the content the affiliate shows to his prospects. The content of your landing page or affiliate review article should provide useful information for the intended audience. So, you should have a good idea who your possible audience would be, what the person's concerns or problems could be, and why he might be interested in your web page or article in the first place.

The affiliate marketer should try to establish a trusted relationship with the web site visitor. You should try to be the reader's friend. Be sincere in your desire to address the target market's concerns with the product or service your are pre-selling to them. Avoid any hard sell, but only sprinkle your affiliate recommendations in your writing.

Establish credibility by speaking to the visitor in a way that shows you understand him and can help him. It helps to speak the language of your target market. Your content can written from that perspective. It is also wise to make sure your content agrees with the product information and message the merchant gives in his sales page.

When you have written your landing page or article review, then put yourself in the visitor's shoes, think of your target market's concerns, and then read what you have written from that perspective. Hopefully, your content will give the visitor the feeling that he is talking to a friend who is giving good advice.

The more targeted your content is to the audience visiting your web site, the more likely the reader will trust you and follow your suggestions. When you can do this, you are in a position to direct the prospect to the merchant's sale page confident that they will be more receptive to the offer the merchant presents.

Pre-selling is vitally important to your success in affiliate marketing. You have to present information in a way that makes your prospects like and trust you.

Prospects convinced of your good intentions are more likely to opt-in, accept your recommendation to visit the merchant's sale page and, if the merchant has a good sales page, buy a product. Affiliates who pre-sell effectively see much better conversion rates than those who simply send visitors cold to the merchant's selling page.

make money online by Building Momentum

The past month has been a very successful one for my online business in terms of traffic going up, number of new affiliates going up, and money in my pocket getting heavier. This really inspires me because after admitting to being lazy about my business over the hot summer months, I am just slowly starting to get back into the swing of things. I am just slowly starting to return to my daily to-do list after having made it more manageable and motivating for me to complete on a daily basis. I am not fully back where I should be in terms of work I need to be doing, and yet, it was my most profitable month ever. I have to say this really motivates me to work even harder, and be more consistent if I really want to make money online. I've realized that you can do this too by building your business momentum.

Many people who want to make money online start a new program with the hope that they will make millions overnight. This just isn't realistic no matter what some online business owners may tell you. I've seen the effects that building momentum can have on your business. I've been through some ups and downs and everyone will experience these. But if you give up on your online business even before a year has passed, you don't even have the chance to get the momentum going, or see that next upward swing in your results, and it will come if you put the time and effort in!

Let me explain by example what I mean by building momentum so that you can make money onlineThere are four ways I have done this, which are: Forum posting; Article writing; Blog posting; and Link generating.

Forum posting means that you join some discussion forums on business related topics, or topics related to whatever your website is about. It's free to join these forums, and a great way to get yourself into a community of other people who are doing exactly what you are doing. You can share ideas, ask questions, look for information, help others, make new friends, and find out what all the top dogs are up to. At first you may think this is not at all really vital to your business and a waste of time. Well, think again! I have made sales simply from offering helpful advice in forums after someone followed my signature link to my site.

A friend of mine who frequents a fishing forum told me that people won't even pay attention to you unless you have made over 500 posts. I thought he was full of it, until I had 500 posts, advanced in my status, and then had 1000+ posts. Believe me, people will pay attention to your posts the more you have because they can see that you have been around for a while and must know what you're talking about. This isn't to say you should go and spam the forums. That is a no-no! Make useful contributions to the forums and offer something of value on a consistent basis, and you will be building momentum for your business through forum posting.

Article writing is the next way I have built momentum for my business. Again, this is something you don't do overnight not if you write your own original articles like I do. This is one of the best ways to advertise your business these days. Provide an article with useful information, and submit it to an article distribution service that will distribute your article to thousands of publishers with your online business links at the end in the author bio-box. You'll be amazed at how fast your links get dispersed around the net One-way links pointing back to your site! I have also found that the more articles you write, the more of an authority you become in your niche. The more articles you have to your name, the more people will realize that you have something valuable to offer, you can be trusted, and your readers may decide you're worth buying from.

Similar to article writing is blog posting. The more frequent your posts, the more traffic you will get to your site. I recently found a tool on the net that allows you to type in your blog address to get a monetary value of what your blog is worth. Now I have posted my own articles, as well as other people's articles to my blog, and have added special news and reports in addition to that. According to the value I got for my blog, I need to beef up my blog even more! Obviously this takes time, and that is my point when I refer to "building momentum". If you quit early on, you will never have the chance to make your online business work for you or make money online.

Finally, link generating is another means I have used to build momentum for my business. The search engines don't even like it if you gather links too quickly because they see it as a deliberate attempt to get a link back to your site. It is recommended that you gather links slowly, maybe 10-15 new links per week, and you want thousands of links pointing back to your site! This, too, will take time, and over time, you will see your link popularity grow if you continue to gather links by writing articles, posting your URL to the link directories, linking to the internal pages on your own site, commenting on blogs, posting in forums, and so on.

Building momentum means taking the time, and making the consistent effort to build your business. It means not giving up pre-maturely, thinking nothing is working for you, and that you are not making any money online. If you take consistent action over time by posting in forums, writing original articles, making frequent posts to your blog, and getting as many quality links pointing back to your site, then have what it takes to make money online!

eBay is by far one of the most sought after internet businesses to dip your hands into. So, if Jane Doe is the only bidder and only bids a mere penny, she won't win the bid unless she raises her bid to meet your reserve or beyond.

eBay is not the only company that you can auction with but with over 2.6 million users each day, it is definitely the one to go to in order to make that five figure income. Here are some tips to be successful.

a. Provide excellent, crisp and clear pictures. Make them as professional as possible by making them large enough to see detail. Offer several views. Along with the picture, provide an easy to read description. It needs to be detailed and can often be borrowed from the manufacturer's website. List the quality of the product and be clear about the condition it is in.

b. Drive feedback up. One of the risks of eBay is that people are leery about providing their information to you. Will you deliver? The way to know if a seller is worth the risk is through their feedback rating. Keep yours high. Do this by delivering fast, answering questions quickly and clearly and being courteous. Also, make sure that you make your deliveries as safely as possible. Provide a guarantee of the product's quality and deliverables.

List-Building: How-To Explode Your List

Focus on building a list of people who care about the same thing as you do, whether it's internet marketing or pet grooming. Then, write a blog every single day, in order to get search engine traffic, and put together press releases to spread the word about the news about whats happening in the world of pet grooming. Keep on top of it.

Write one press release a day. Do one blog entry a day. In the meantime, build a list of people who care. Monetize the whole thing with something like AdSense.

If your niche is that important to you, then you need to have the most high-traffic website on this topic in the world, so go for it. Depending on where you are financially, if you can afford to just dive in and do it full force, do that. If you cant, do it part-time but make sure that youre working on marketing and all of the other activities youre working on within your niche, in order to learn how to drive more traffic, build a bigger list, and get more readers for your message, right?

Then start finding good products, the ones that convert well, and the ones that have a comprehensive sales process. In the meantime, youre still building this gigantic list. Maybe youre marketing a whole bunch of smaller ClickBank products in the meantime, in order to make money. Consistence breeds confidence, and confidence breeds action that gets results.

2. Persistence. Consistence is the technician's job. When you're ready, you can outsource most of the work that puts you in front of your ideal audience on a regular basis. Persistence is the pivotal mindset of the successful professional. It's the focus strategy, the dogged determination that fuels you over the long haul.

3. Belief. We've left the tough one for last. It's also a mindset thing, but somehow it never feels like it, does it? Especially when the word on the street is that belief resides in your heart and soul. Belief is the foundation of persistence, the unwavering knowledge and voice within that says 'This WILL work. I CAN do this!' You can go through the motions with persistence. BELIEF, however, is the ultimate polygraph test. It reveals your confidence, goals, and determination through the circumstances and details of your everyday life.

To be honest, it's these three deceivably simple concepts that are kicking our butt this year.

We've never had a problem with consistence for other clients, but we've flopped on our own internal deadlines.

Our persistence has reared its head as ugly stubbornness on more than one occasion.

As for belief? It's been an all-out struggle for us to get from the unconscious, fear-based mental muck to the nutritious, can-do brain food that supports a thriving lifestyle.

Even so, we DO believe these three principles will set us free - and you, too - if we all learn them.

Only then can they work their magic.

Using the first name in the subject box and in the e-mail is proven to generate more clicks in order for your subscribers to read the email. However, do not use too much of the first-name basis strategy in the subject box for every single email. It is a mistake Internet marketers do that tends to get over-used, making the subsciber uneasy.

2. Create a Powerful Headline

Most of the emails I used to subscribe to had headlines could make me sleep even before I could read them. Headlines must be powerful in order for the impact of curiosity to take place. Most Internet marketers focus more on the content of the email rather than the headline. Create a headline that attracts attention to the niche that you're in. If the headline said, "Jo Han, Maximize Your Sales Now!" This headline could intrigue entrepreneurs like me who want to expand their business and generate more profits.

3. A Content List

Most internet marketers do not feel the need to do this in email marketing. This is applicable only to short emails, but for long emails sch as a newsletter, it is more preferable to create a content list in your email. A content list is like a content page in a book, except in an email. Now creating content list in email marketing lets your subscribers know what you will be covering in your email. Create content lists that arouse the reader to further read the email for more effectiveness in promoting your product.

4. Your First Sentence

The first sentence in your email should leave your subscribers with an impact of curiosity to read on the rest of the email. Most Internet marketers just go straight into promoting the product without even invoking feelings into the subscriber. For example, there was first sentence in one of my emails that went like this: My Mega Birthday Blowout is now LIVE'. Now, if I am a subscriber, I'll be wondering, "What the hell is he talking about?" That subscriber will have no choice but to read on the email copy to find out more. No one wants to be left out of something that someone wants to tell them about.

5. The Content

In email marketing, when you are promoting your product in an email, the mistake a lot of Internet marketers make is to describe and teach what was in the product. Although a lot of knowledge is good, teaching them is not. Why would you want to promote your product in your email when you already have a website promoting it? You have to write an email copy that can make the reader excited, curious and eager to know more. And just as they are burning up for your product, provide them with the link to your website. You are probably like myself in the fact that you initially became involved in Googles Adsense to make lots of money and quickly. Unless you are the Uber-Genius of the Web and everything you create makes tons of money, then you have found the truth about making money as a Adsense publisher. Its not easy!

I have been making a living with Adsense and various other affiliate marketing programs over the past three years and the lessons learned have been hard and fast.

1. There is really not a quick buck to be made unless you are running a scam on people.

2. Hard work and lots of it combined with a huge learning curve that is constantly changing so you must stretch your mind and change with it.

3. You need to make lots of friends on the net to support one another in this industry - Things like one way linking Ad placement Graphics Design Web Site creation Blog layouts just to name a few.

4. You need time unless you have a few buddies working at Google, Yahoo, MSN and few universities. It takes time for all of the search engines and linking to take effect. Yes there are some tricks to faster search engine emersion but they catch on to these and you can be considered a black hat SEO guy/gal and that is not good.

5. You need to treat your business like a business and respect it Anything that is free is not respected.

6. Have a goal I would like to start my own little diner here our little town so my goal is to create enough capital with Adsense, Amazon and a few others to have my bills paid off, create my diner, and maybe even a bakery next door Have a office in the back to keep tabs on the Adsense Empire that we have created and live life a little easier.

So if you are getting down about how little you are making Print this list out and keep it next to your monitor on your fridge or where ever and re-read it from time to time You are not alone in this quest You really are not alone.

One more tip Whatever ever your goal is, break it down to smaller pieces and put a number on it Like if you want to make $100,000 USD per year then that would be $273.98 per day x 365 days per year. Take a stack of post it notes and write $273.98 along with Adsense below it and put them every where in your home that you go during the day. Almost everyone who accesses the Internet and uses e-mail knows about spam. The common definition of spam is e-mail that is unsolicited, undesired by the recipient. Spam is sent out by automated programs to thousands or millions email addresses at a time. In most cases spam emails offer you different services, products (medicines, goods, software programs etc.), and get rich quickly plans. You can simply delete them if you receive several unsolicited emails per day. But if you get tens or hundreds spam messages every day, it is a real problem. In order to understand how to deal with spam in your inbox, lets examine some core questions concerning spam:

Why send spam?

The right answer is to make money. If you have never opened a spam message, you should not think that others dont do it either. Among thousands or millions people who receive spam you can always find one or several persons who actually purchase services or products the spammers advertise, or join the get rich schemes the spammers offer. Of course, they lose and the spammer wins.

How do spammers obtain email addresses?

The spammers send a fraudulent email that usually appears to come from financial institutions like Ebay or Paypal saying that there is some trouble with your account and that you need to update it. There is a link within the message that you should follow to update the account details. The web site usually looks like a real companys web site. But as soon as you start filling the presented form in, the program starts recording your keystrokes and your private details are now disclosed to the spammer.

How to fight spam?

It is prudent to use an anti-spam filter to block annoying, time consuming, and sometimes dangerous spam emails. Anti-spam software checks your incoming emails and immediately moves spam messages into a special trash folder. If you want a good internet security suite that includes a spam blocker, consider BitDefender Professional Plus, Kaspersky Internet Security, F-Secure Internet Security or eTrust Internet Security. To give out emails, you will first need an auto-responder. An auto-responder is a service that you can use to build up on your list and send out emails to them in a specific time. Managing Great Content

Make your customers look forward to your emails. Give them free gifts, techniques and advice that makes them inspired to learn more from you and trust you with their money. Referring back to the previous example of giving a free fishing book to your customer, you can wait for about a week, and after he has liked your book and trusted your judgement, you can advertise to him a certain product that can help him fish better. Do focus on customer behaviour. Customers very seldom buy products when they first get to know about it. They need a certain amount of time to think it through. All the more, you can emphasize on the product in your next email if they haven't bought it.

Email Format

The title or subject of the email should be something that catches the reader's attention. It is proven that names work very well in making people read the emails sent to them. For example, "Ben! Look what I've got for Christmas!"

The apparent availability of wealth draw so many to the Internet, its reminiscent of the days of the California Gold Rush. Not so different from that distant past most get disheartened in their quest of making money online. They believe just about everything they see online. These individuals just want to know how to make money online and how to do it now. There are of course many ways to make money on the Internet, after all it is the worlds largest market place. You need to devise a plan; one can either sell their own product/services or simply sell someone elses. The vast majority of individuals would fall into the second category. Its called affiliate marketing and once done correctly this is where you can strike gold.

There are literally thousands upon thousands of products available for anyone to promote and make commissions ranging upwards of 75% some even 100% and all you have to do is sign-up for free. As an affiliate you can start making money almost immediately. Theres no inventory to keep, no having to deal with customers and you dont even need your own website. What can be better than that?

This is how it works: first you have to sign up to be an affiliate with the company(s) of you choice for the products you want to promote. You would be given a unique URL for their website which contains your affiliate code. This URL leads back to their sales page where any purchases made by visitors will earn you your commission, either a percentage or a flat fee. Tens of thousands of people earn a living this way and free themselves from their regular jobs.

Promote your products! Potential buyers arent just going to pull your affiliate links out of mid air. Now you have products that you can sell thats only half the battle. The second and most critical is to drive traffic to the site(s) using your affiliate URL.

There are several ways to promote your affiliate links, of which I will briefly mention a few. Paid Ads is really the best form of promoting, using search engine pay-per-click on Google, Yahoo etc. For free traffic you can write a blog and include your affiliate link. Write and submit articles on topics youre comfortable with and include your link in the bio box. You can also have someone write for you, a Ghost Writer. Join forums and put your link in your profile or signature area, so whenever you make a post your link gets out there. Find the Right Products to Sell on the Internet!

One of the most common questions I am asked is "What do I sell on the internet?"

Well, the answer depends a lot on your personality and HOW you want to sell. In other words, the first question should not be "what sells well on the internet", but "what method of selling am I most comfortable with?"

There are essentially three ways to sell products on the internet. Lets look at each method and the see the advantages and disadvantages of each.

First Method: Buy Wholesale and Sell Retail

This method is as old as human history. Find a product your niche wants, locate a wholesale source for that product, set up your online home business, advertise the product on your web site and ship the product to your customer.

Advantages:

1. You maintain complete control over the sales and delivery process.

You decide how much to mark up the wholesale price, not someone else. You also have control over when the item is shipped to your customer, not someone else halfway across the country!

2. You can shop around for the best wholesale price.

3. You can recommend your other products when someone purchases your product.

Disadvantages:

1. You will end up shipping packages everyday.

2. You will have to pay upfront for inventory and have a place to store it in your home.

3. Since others will be selling the same thing you are, you must be able to out-market your competition.

Second Method: Recommend Products for a Commission

This is also called affiliate marketing. You recommend someone elses product using a special hyper-link called an affiliate link. When your visitor clicks on that link, the visitor is taken to the other persons product page, but a cookie tracks the link to you. If a sale results, you get a commission. There is a lot of affiliate marketing information online.

Commissions can range from 5% of an order for camping gear to 50% of an information product priced at $1500! Affiliate marketing works for physical products, services, ebooks and anything else under the sun.

The key is finding product owners that see the value in sharing a percentage of the sale with those willing to be volunteer sales people for their product. Product owners that see the value of residual income with an online business.

Advantages:

1. You do not have to ship the product - the owner of the product takes care of that. In fact, the owner of the product creates the sales page, collects the money, ships the product and handles the questions and refunds.

2. You do not have to keep the product in inventory

3. Some commissions can be VERY generous.

Disadvantages:

1. If the product owner has an affiliate program, other people will be selling the exact same product. You must out-market other people and even the owner to make significant sales. You can not merely put up a link and forget about it if you want to make sales!

2. You have no control over the price of the product, the effectiveness of the sales page or the delivery of the product.

3. Although most product owners are honest and want to keep their affiliates happy, you have no leverage when it comes to getting paid. You do not control the money.

Third Method: Create your own product.

This is my favorite way to make money every day online! Once you learn to start an online business, creating your own products is a great way to follow your passion AND sell products that no one else is selling!

Advantages:

1. You have complete control over the sales and delivery process. You determine the price for your own product and you can even cut out the delivery costs be creating a downloadable product.

2. You will gain a huge sense of satisfaction, not to mention instant expert status!

3. You can find a need and then meet it. Creating your own product allows you to be very flexible and meet a targeted need in a very specialized niche.

4. There is no competition for your particular product. You are the ONLY ONE selling your products, unless you allow others to sell it for you, but you have complete control.

Disadvantages:

1. You can waste a lot of time and money if you have not researched your niche properly.

2. You must find a daily source of new customers.

3. You must find others to help promote your product.

So there you have it - the three basic methods of selling products on the internet. Hopefully, you can look at the advantages and disadvantages of each and determine which method is right for you. But dont stop with just one. Incorporate all three methods into your online business and you will have a strong, diverse business that whether any economic storm!

1ST Installment: 6-Figure A Year Work-At-Home Opportunity? You Decide!

One extremely hot night in Los Angeles, I got up to check my emails. Once my head hits the pillow, I dont normally get up again. But this night was different, because I had some concerns about my financial future, and couldnt sleep.

4 years ago, I had quit my job with great fanfare to start my own internet business. But to date, my online businesses had not performed as well as I had hoped. I was even considering going back to my day job.

So, here I found myself in front of the computer late at night dreaming of that elusive bigger income, and hoping maybe an order had come in. No, nothing.

Attention All Frustrated Affilliates

Gear Up Your Marketing For Fourth Quarter

The fourth quarter of each year presents a huge opportunity for many businesses. Consumers often spend more as they prepare for the holidays, and many businesses increase their spending in the fourth quarter as they prepare for the new year.

All of this can mean increased sales for you and me... but only if your marketing is effective.

So how do you get your marketing in shape? Simple. Set some goals for quarter and create a plan to take you there. The following is a list of some activities that you might want to include as part of your fourth quarter marketing efforts.

1. Plan

Create a detailed plan for the next 90 days that includes a huge push for increased sales. Set a sales target for the quarter, look at the work that you have already booked, and then plan where the extra sales you need to reach your target will come from.

What marketing activities can you do that will help get you there? What existing clients can you approach for additional work or referrals? How can you increase the size of your network so that more people know about your business and what you do? Make the plan as detailed as possible and then take daily action in executing it.

2. Review Your Website

Review your website and ensure that it is doing a good job of interesting and educating your prospects about your services. Be sure to stress the benefits of your services and give prospects plenty of reasons why they should do business with you rather than your competitors.

Your site should request that visitors leave their contact information. This can be done by having them sign up for a newsletter, request more information, or arrange a free consultation. You can increase response by offering an incentive, such as a free report or a discount. If your website doesn't ask for this vital information, then make some changes to it so that it does.

3. Write Articles

Write several articles on topics related to your product or service. The articles should contain tips or advice that your target market will find useful and that will help them solve their problems. Post the articles on your website and get them published on other websites and in journals that your prospects read.

4. Publish a Newsletter

Start sending out an ezine or newsletter to your clients and contacts. Include a signup form on your website and offer an incentive for visitors to subscribe, such as the articles you wrote in step 3. Use the ezine to provide more help, education, and how-to advice to your prospects.

5. Speak

Get a speaking engagement at an event that your prospects are likely to attend. Make the talk informative and pack it with as much valuable information as you can. Do not make it an extended sales pitch! Mention the services your company provides by all means, but make sure that you also provide plenty of relevant and useful information to the audience.

During the talk, be sure to promote your newsletter and the articles that are available on your website. Be sure to get the contact information of as many of the attendees' as possible.

If you don't already have their contact information, a good way of getting it is to offer a bonus item that can be mailed out to attendees afterwards, such as a recording or transcript of the presentation, or another article or in-depth report. In order for the attendees to get the bonus item, have them leave you their contact information on a signup form or have them give you their business card. It's important to solicit this information immediately after the talk. If you refer them to your website to signup, the response rate will drop significantly.

6. Advertise

You should review your advertising and ensure that is cost-effectively driving a steady stream of prospects to your door. If you don't already advertise regularly, now would be a great time to start.

Begin with some small advertisements in publications that your prospects read, and test what works. If the response to your ad is encouraging you can increase its size. If the response is poor, make some changes to it and try again.

Conduct a direct mail campaign that educates your prospects on the services you provide. Provide as much information as possible and don't make the material overly "salesy" or it will be ignored. You might consider promoting your newsletter in this way as an easy, low-risk way for prospects to get to know your business. The bottom line with direct mail is to be informative and focused on the benefits that your prospects receive. Follow up the direct mail campaign with phone calls or even a visit to the prospect.

7. Utilize Your Current Clients

Study your current clients and look for ways that you can provide additional services to them. Look specifically for ways that you can really help them develop their business. Ask them for referrals.

8. Network

Meet with people in your network and exchange referrals. Generate some business for them and educate them on the types of prospects you're looking for. You'll be amazed at how quickly they'll be able to come up with names of people you should speak to, especially after you've helped them.

9. Offer Additional Payment Options

Offer flexible payment options such as payment by credit card or payment by installment. Sales can often increase by as much a 30% simply by being a little bit more flexible in the way you get paid for your services. If it's appropriate to your business, try offering free samples of your products, free trials of services, or a no-risk "test-drive" period.

10. Community Involvement

Get involved in your community by volunteering to help in local events. You could serve on the board of a charity, help organize a special event, or donate your business' services to a worthy cause. If time is in short supply (and what business owner has an abundance of time?) then be highly selective in the ways you get involved and choose only those activities that get you in front of influential people and decision makers.

RSS is technology - a simple software program - that allows you to access web and blog content automatically. The acronym's most popular translation is "Really Simple Syndication. Once your browser or computer has an RSS reader on board, you can subscribe to any number of RSS "feeds." A feed is simply a way in which a reader may subscribe to website content - most commonly blogs or news sites. A news site, for example, may list their latest headlines or entire articles in their feed every time a new article is published. A blog would publish this feed as a series of recent posts.

Feeds are published by millions of publishers, from small individuals to large organizations like Newsweek. The value of a feed is that it brings the most current site content to you in a format that is easily scanned; further, you are spared the task of visiting each source site each day. This is typically done through the use of what is called an 'aggregator' or 'feed reader'.

Feed readers or RSS readers, are software programs that run on your computer (or PDA or phone); let you easily subscribe to feeds, and allow you to read through them efficiently. Some are relatively simple, showing the headline and summary. The fancier ones often work with (or in) your browser to make viewing the material look much like the source page. Once you have a reader on your computer, subscribing to a feed with is an easy click or drag from your browser. Sites that provide RSS feeds will usually have a button for that purpose.

There are several RSS feed formats as well as one with an entirely different methodology called Atom. Atom has become popular with some bloggers and blogging tools. Some aggregators can read both. The other acronyms you will see in "feedspeak" are XML, which stands for 'extensible markup language' and is the code standard for these simple text feeds. An 'OPML" file is a format for indexing hierarchical feed lists. If you dive into this web habit in a big way, your aggregator or reader may keep your subscription list in an OPML file.

An RSS feed is a great method for staying abreast of issues and topics that interest you. There are a number of feed "libraries," so to speak, from which you can learn what's out there in your areas of interest. Google has a built-in reader that makes the subscription process easy, as does Yahoo. Firefox has a downloadable extension for the purpose of aggregating RSS feeds, as well as a default ability to save RSS feeds as "live bookmarks" that update via the RSS feed. You can download a number of stand alone readers and aggregators; you can find them through a simple web search.

The whole RSS "movement" is a step towards utilizing the Internet more efficiently. The trick is to avoid overloading your email inbox with daily reports that you end up ignoring most of the time. For that purpose, there are sites like Feedster that will search millions of RSS feeds for articles that are relevant to your interests. Like any search tool, however, these services are hit and miss. They are still working off keywords and sometimes what they find is relevant, sometimes not. But if you want daily news broken into categories, it's great technology once you learn how to make it work for you.

There are a lot of misconceptions going on about how to start making money with a new or even an old site. Ill pretend like were talking about a new site but the idea would be the same if it was an old site. Lets pretend that we have a quality design, a good product and everything online is 100% ready to go. Now we need the traffic.

Lets pretend that we are selling car parts and I have all my car parts in stock and ready to go. That would be a waste of bandwidth, time and energy for me; I will not sell this part to someone looking for a new car or someone that does not even own a Mustang.

Ill use the words 68 Blue Ford Mustang Door Skin at the start of my article, in the text, at the end of my article, in bold, in header tags, in plural and singular words and Ill use those words together and separate from each other and in links coming and going from this page and most importantly, Ill use them in my page title.

Ill also have pictures of my Blue 68 Ford Mustang Door Skins that are optimized and set up for the search engines. They will rank if someone does a search in images for a 68 Blue Mustang Door Skin and they will rank if someone does a search in the organic engine for 68 Blue Mustang Door Skin because this is a non-competitive search term. Ill have a call to action that will take my visitor to my shopping cart when he is ready to make the purchase.

On this page Ill have links on the left hand side that will link to a page called Door Skins, 68 Red Mustang Door Skins, 68 Black Mustang Door Skins and the list will go on and on pointing people to different model and ages of cars that I have door skins for.

Ill do this for every part and product that Im selling. Once I finish, I will send out press releases about my new site, about my products and then Ill write articles about my products and link those back to my products with the proper anchor text. Ill submit these to article websites; Ill then find car forums and start posting in those and use my signatures to link back to my product pages. Ill create a blog and forum on my site to talk about my business and products and link to my products from that blog every chance I get. Ill write post in my blog that we get others to link back to my blog.

Ill create small sites like a 68 Ford Mustang website where Ill give information and have a little forum for people that are interested in 68 Ford Mustangs to post. Ill use this website to link to my products and help promote my main site. Once its going good Ill create a new forum for 69 Ford Mustang lovers.

I could go on and on, Ive not even started writing yet, there are so many ways to make money online.

It will take me some time and a lot of work but I will dominate the market that Im in.

How to Get Free Adwords Credit, and 9 Other Tips You Were Never Told!

Someone in a forum asked me the other day for some quick tips on Google Adwords. I have been quite successful with Adwords, and so my post got longer and longer as I thought of things, and each one seemed more important than the last-It occurred to at that point that this would make a pretty useful article, as its something lots of people participate in, and I dont feel that many people get as much out of it as they should do! I think its a pity because in the work at home and home business arenas, some decent Adwords skills can make a huge amount of difference to your online money making! With that in mind, here are my 10 Adwords Tips You Were Never Told!

10- Trust your own conversion rates-Nobody elses. This relates particularly well to those of you that are affiliate marketers. When you are considering what items to promote, only use other peoples conversion figures if they can physically prove them to you. I once agreed to sign on as an affiliate for a contact I had made through eBay-He seemed very professional, I liked his site and his product, and he assured me that the site converted around 5% of visitors into sales. I liked the sound of that, as I already had a few low priced keywords in mind that would bring in some good traffic. So I signed up. One month later, I had directed over a thousand clicks to his site, and there had not been a single sale. I got it verified by Clickbank too, so I know it was pretty accurate. Needless to say, our partnership ground to a halt.

9-Keep an eye on the budget-especially until the campaign takes off and becomes profitable. This seems really obvious, but those clicks really do add up fast. Its really easy to let them get out of hand as we find ourselves pushing it up that extra couple of bucks here and there in the hope of picking up stray clicks at the end of the day. Before we know it, our 4 or 5 dollars a day is 12 or 13, and by the end of the month we owe Google a grand. Thats great if you are making good money from all those clicks, but from reading the forums I gather that this mostly happens to people that are just starting out and struggling to get into profit.

8-Dont listen to Google. Let them show you how to use the site and get your account set up, but for advice on actual campaigns and ads, look elsewhere. The reason? Google are a business. Its in their interest for you to pay more for your clicks, and to raise your budget accordingly. There are plenty of free resources on the net for Adwords, like this article for example, so search around for things like this and any free ebooks you can find on the subject. If you want advice, get it from people that arent going to be profiting directly from your mistakes.

7-Quantity and quality-Spend time researching your keywords. The more time you spend, the less money you spend, and your click through rate will likely be better too. Lots of Adwords campaigns are run by people sitting behind little desks in big offices, beavering away for a tiny salary and a company car. Campaigns are literally a job for these people, and the success or cost of the campaign is of no relevance because it all comes straight from the company funds. People like this are the reason that you can bid $25 on the words Credit Card on some PPC schemes and still not get top placing. People like this are also the reason people like you and I can find thousands of cheap, closer matching keywords just by putting the time in. These guys run campaigns just by throwing money at them, and we can easily outperform them just by applying ourselves a little with the keyword research.

6-Match Test-Adwords lets you run multiple ads from the same keyword group simultaneously. This is a great tool if you put it to use properly. How? Simply by making each ad slightly different, and seeing which one pulls more clicks. Once you can see which one is more successful, tinker around with the wording on the less popular ad until it improves performance and pulls more clicks than the one that was initially leading. Do this constantly and before you know it you will have an ad which literally rips clicks off the page!

5-Have patience-When you make changes give them time to manifest themselves in your results. Only when you can see what effect a change has had should you make any more. If you dont do things gradually like this you can quite easily mess a campaign up in a fashion that will take two or three days to get back on track.

4-Cheat-I dont know if its ethical to say this, but Im going to do it anyway- When you are starting an Adwords account, go to eBay first and buy some free Adwords credit. You can buy $30 of credit to an Adwords account for pennies from certain eBay sellers. That certainly makes your first few campaigns a little less stressful. Not ethical I know, but Im sure Google will get plenty of money from you once you get the hang of the system. Heres hoping they dont sue me lol.

3-Dont forget about other PPC schemes- You wont get the traffic you would from Google, but you will get much cheaper high quality keywords, so it balances out really. I prefer Google myself because your writing skill plays as big a part as your wallet-your ad will appear closer to the top of the screen if it is popular with the customers. That means if your ad is effective and gets more clicks than the other bidders, you will be able to pay less than the other guys that have bid on that word.

2-Make Your Ads Specific- You can weed out a lot of non-qualified browsers by stating important facts in the ad copy- people that would have cost you money from the click and not bought anyway. For example an ad which simply states House for Sale would get clicks from all kinds of people looking for houses, but if it were to say Two Bedroom House for sale you would be naturally cutting out the customers which were looking for four bedroom houses, apartments etc, as they can see straight away that you do not have what they are seeking. This reduction is good because it would help keep our costs low due to unnecessary clicks.

1- Be Relentless- Its easy to think you have made it in Adwords, and equally easy to become really disillusioned when you do not see results straight away. Just keep the faith- Its science, not art, and as such can be learned. Stick with it and you will soon see profit, and once you are in profit it is just a case of maintaining that balance while you raise the budgets and increase your exposures!

Traffic Equalizer - Dead or Alive?

Years ago when Jeff Alderson released Traffic Equalizer, it sent a shockwave through the search engine marketing industry. Alderson transformed what, at the time, was an arduous, piecemeal task into a smooth continuous operation. Many people at the time made a lot of money.

Since then, Traffic Equalizer has fallen into disfavor as search engines have come out hard against this type of online marketing.

It's clear that no one can expect to use Traffic Equalizer "out of the box" anymore. Its templates are well-known by the search engines and using them "as is" is a recipe for disaster. Also, Traffic Equalizer's internal keyword generation tool, to my mind, is so slow and balky that you're better off just skipping it.

But I still like Traffic Equalizer. Any search engine marketer worth his or her weight instinctively knows how to throw together a simple HTML page. That's all you have to do to "fuzzy-up" the internal templates and make them unrecognizable to the search engines. In fact, I just ignore the templates now and make my Traffic Equalizer templates from scratch in a WYSIWYG program such as FrontPage.

Next, I release far less pages than search engine marketers used to do in the past. There are legends of 10,000 pages being released at a time. No one does that anymore. Start with 100 pages, then slowly trickle out 25 pages every week or so. This gives the search engines the idea that this is a valid site.

How to make money online with Google AdWords?

We all heard about making money online. The question is how do you rely start making money online today. I am going to share with you on how you can start making money online without having a website, not knowing anything about web design, and not spending much money. That is right you do not have to have any knowledge of HTML code. All you have to know is how to type. There are hundreds of courses on the internet charging you hundreds of dollar for the information I am about to share with you. Do not spend any money on any online marketing tools until you read this.

The one way to take advantage of Google AdWords is to become affiliate. Affiliate marketing is where someone advertises for another website and in return that person receives commission for each sale their advertising brigs to that website. Heres an example: Lets say I want to sell Laptop Computers, but I dont have a website and/or I dont have any computers to sell. Well instead of starting a company, I can just find a company online which already sells computers and offers an affiliate program. Now that I have searched and found a company, I look at what they offer. Lets say they are giving 10% commission on every sale I make. I decide to use that company and I set up my affiliate account with them and they give me a special URL (a web address that will let the company know that it was my advertising which gave them the sale), which I use in my advertisements. Now I make ad advertisement, and display it on Google. Whenever someone sees and clicks on my advertisement it will go to the companys webpage. Lets say that one hundred people clicked on my text advertisement and one of them buys a computer that cost $1,200. Because that person who bought the computer clicked on my advertisement that company will give me 10% of $1,200 which means that I made $120.00

Most online companies offer affiliate program. Companies like Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Max, Amazon.com, Buy.com and many more, literally tens of thousands. There are also companies online which all they do is offer other online business a way to have an affiliate program. These affiliate Companies manage affiliate programs for thousands of online companies. This means that if you have an account with Affiliate Company (they are completely free), you can advertise for any of the thousands of companies that use them to manage their affiliate sales. If you want to, you can search Google for affiliate programs just to see how big online marketing currently is.

By using AdWords and high paying affiliate program you can start earning money today. The AdWords advertisements are Pay Per Click (PPC), which means that the owner of that advertisement pays Google every time someone clicks on their advertisement. The main reason for wanting to pay for traffic is because it is very very difficult to receive free traffic on Google. When you sign up for Google AdWords Pay Per Click advertising your advertisement will be displayed almost immediately in Googles search results (usually within 5 minutes). You can also decide which page you want your advertisements to be displayed on ( the first page receives more visitors than the other pages).

It is very simple to start Google AdWords account. Go to www.google.com and look toward the bottom of the page. You will see a link says Advertising Programs. Once you there, you should click on the link which says Google AdWords. After clicking Click to Begin, you will be taken to a couple of pages which will ask you how you want to set up your advertising group(s) with Google. Google will send you an email to the email address you specified which will contain a URL that you will need to go to in order to activate your account. After you go to that URL you can log into Google AdWords using your email address as your user name. Now that you have an account set up, you are ready to learn how to create a Campaign so you can begin making money online.

Here is how to create a AdWords campaign in Google. First off to create a new keyword campaign, click the link Keyword-Targeted campaign. You will be prompted to name your campaign. Your campaign name is what will be displayed on the first screen when you log into your Google AdWords account. Since you will most likely have several campaigns, when you name your campaign you will want to make sure it is unique name that will let you know exactly what you are advertising in that campaign. Next you will need to name your AdGroup. Remember, you will have several different AdGroups with one Campaign, so name it something that will help you know exactly what keywords are in that AdGroup. Next, you should choose the area(s) where you want your ads to appear. There are three different ways to choose where you want to advertise. You can choose to advertise by Countries and Territories, Regions and Cities, or Customized.

The most important thing you need in order to have a successful Google campaign is a text ad with a high CTR. Text Ads with a high CTR will increase your Quality Score which will increase your overall position.

Things You Should Know:

1. You are not required to have http: or www in your display URL.

2. Google will not let you capitalize all the letters in all your words, but they will let you capitalize most of your words.

3. The website must not require additional software to load (example: it cannot be a .pdf instead of .htm).

4. Back button must be able to go back to Google with one click.

5. You cant have websites that mirror other websites that are advertised for the same keyword (example: having the same pictures and text but using a different web address). I know many affiliates do this, but I dont know how much Google enforces this rule.

6. The website you are advertising cannot have a pop up or pup under ad.

Another key to having a successful online business is making sure that every single person who is even the slightest bit interested in your product sees your advertisement. The best way to do this is by creating a very huge keyword list (thousands of keywords). Some products have many keywords, while others have very few. Usually the more keywords there are available for the product, the better. Not because it is searched more often, but also because most people who are also selling the same product will only select a few general keywords which may be very broad keywords.

When you bid on Google, you will not always pay the price you enter. The price you enter is the MCPC (Maximum Cost Per Click) you are willing to pay for that keyword. Google constantly updating the bids for the keywords in their search engine. For example if your MCPC is $0.15 and the advertiser in front of you is bidding $0.16 and the Ad one position behind you is bidding $0.05, you will only pay $0.06 per click, because there is no reason why you should have to pay $0.15 per click if you can get the same Ad position for $0.06 per click.

Google is a most searched search engine on the internet and with that they are consistently making update and improvement. Throughout the web, you will find hundreds of business opportunities. From selling coffee to selling cars, you'll find hundreds of things that you have the opportunity to get into to make money. Things like digitalized products or software are very hot sellers. People come to your website to learn about the product and you sell it to them or provide a link to where they can purchase it. In most cases, you get a commission like payment for doing this.

Think you can't just sell products online anymore? You can. In fact, you'll even be able to find products that are below cost and sell them with a good mark up as well.

Writing And Selling ebooks

People come to the internet to get information. Why not sell it to them? If you have knowledge (or can get it) about a topic that others want to learn about, you can easily tap into this business market. All you need to do is to write an ebook (or have it written by a professional) and market it. This can be done through eBay or through hundreds of other methods.

Question #1: I use an Autoresponder. For some reason, my Autoresponder is sending duplicate messages causing me to lose subscribers. Why is the Autoresponder sending duplicate messages?

Answer: You may be putting your email messages in both the text side and the HTML side of the Autoresponder. If you have email in both places then it will send out duplicate content.

You can check this by opening up your Autoresponder and looking under the Properties feature. Check to see if you have the email set to text. Remember, you want to send your emails as text. Click save to save this setting.

Next go back in to where you place your email messages. Make sure that you have placed your email messages in the text area only.

Question #2: On my Internet business website should I post articles in full rich HTML text as opposed to PDF format?

Answer: Post your articles in full rich HTML format. Avoid the PDF format because search engines cant read PDF content. The search engines recognize that its a PDF, but they cant actually read it. You can offer a link to download an HTML article in PDF format if you want, but it is not necessary.

Question #3: Should you post articles on your branding site or on your squeeze page?

Answer: You can put one article on your branding site. You can also put an article on your squeeze page. Think about it. When traffic is driven to your website they are driven to your squeeze page. The article on your squeeze page is more of a benefit to your subscribers than it is to being picked up by search engines. It will help build a relationship with your subscribers from the get-go.

Question #4: What equipment should I use for burning CDs, DVDs, and making labels?

Answer: A great program is BravoPro which burns DVDs and CDs. It also creates the labels for you. Make sure to purchase the add-on that lets you burn more CDs and DVDs at one time.

Most of this is very obvious - of course you can't sell illegal things like drugs, pyramid schemes or stolen goods. Almost everything that is on the list is there because there is law against selling it. Some of the reasons, though, are a little strange.

The 'autographed items' entry, for example, doesn't mean that you can't sell anything that's been autographed - it just means that you can only sell it if it comes with a certificate of authenticity. The 'artifacts' entry prohibits you from selling Native American graves; 'celebrity material' means you can't sell unauthorised pictures of celebrities; 'embargoed goods' means that you can't sell anything that comes from Cuba… on and on it goes, and most of it you never need to know.

If your chosen kind of item seems to be on the list, though, and you're concerned that you might not be able to sell it, then check the full list at http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/items-ov.html to see whether the item is banned entirely or there are just a few restrictions.

eBay says it will remove any items that it believes violate copyright law, but in reality they don't have that many people to monitor the site. You will generally only find that your auction gets removed if someone decides to report you - and even then, they might not get around to it.

Ebay Software Auction Program And Manage - A Beginner's Guide to the Different eBay Auction Types.

Over the years, eBay has introduced all sorts of different auction types, in an effort to give people more options when they buy and sell their things on eBay.

For every seller who doesn't like the idea that their item might sell for a far lower price than they intend, there's another who wants to shift hundreds of the same item quickly. eBay tries to cater to all tastes. This email gives you an overview of the different kinds of auctions and their advantages for you.

Normal Auctions.

These are the bread-and-butter of eBay, the auctions everyone knows: buyers bid, others outbid them, they bid again, and the winner gets the item. Simple.

Reserve Auctions.

Reserve auctions are for sellers who don't want their items to sell for less than a certain price - a concept you'll know about if you're familiar with real auctions. They work just like normal auctions on eBay, except that the buyer will be told if their bid does not meet the reserve price you set, and they'll need to bid again if they want the item. If no-one is willing to meet your price, then the auction is cancelled, and you keep the item.

Fixed Price ('Buy it Now') Auctions.

Buy it Now auctions can work in one of two ways. You can add a Buy it Now button to a normal auction, meaning that buyers can choose either to bid normally or to simply pay the asking price and avoid the whole bidding process. Some sellers, though, now cut out the auction process altogether and simply list all their items at fixed price. This lets you avoid all the complications of the auction format and simply list your items for how much you want them to sell for.

Recently, eBay added a twist to fixed price auctions: the 'best offer'. This means that buyers can contact you to negotiate a price, which could be a good way to get sell some extra stock at a small discount. The only downside to reserve and fixed price auctions is that you pay a small extra fee to use these formats. In general, it is more worth using reserve auctions for higher-priced items and fixed price auctions for lower-priced ones - but remember that you can combine the two formats.

Multiple Item ('Dutch') Auctions.

These are auctions where you can sell more than one of a certain item. Dutch auctions can be done by bidding. Buyers bid a price and say how many items they want, and then everyone pays the lowest price that was bid by one of the winning bidders. If you have trouble getting your head around that, then don't worry - everyone else does too! These auctions are very rare.

What is more common is when a seller has a lot of one item, and lists it using a combination of two auction types: a multiple-item fixed price auction. This just means that you can just say how many of the item you they have, and offer them at a fixed price per unit. Buyers can enter how many they want and then just click Buy it Now to get them.

First off, you need to know what it is you're going to sell: what's your speciality? You won't get any loyalty or real reputation if you just sell rubbish at random.

When you think about what to sell, there are a few things to consider. The most important of these is to always sell what you know. If you try to sell something that you just don't know anything about then you'll never write a good description and sell it for a good price.

You might think you're not especially interested in anything, but if you think about what kind of things you usually buy and which websites you go to most often, I'm sure you'll discover some kind of interest. If all else fails mention it to your friends and family: they'll almost certainly say "Oh, well why don't you sell…", and you'll slap your forehead.

Out of the things you know enough about, you should then consider which things you could actually get for a good enough price to resell, and how suitable they would be for posting. If you can think of something of that you're knowledgeable about and it's small and light enough for postage to be relatively cheap, then that's great!

Don't worry if you think the thing you're selling is too obscure - it isn't. There's a market for almost everything on eBay, even things that wouldn't sell once in a year if you stocked them in a shop. You'll probably do even better if you fill a niche than if you sell something common.

If you earn enough money, you should be aware that you're going to have to start paying tax - this won't be done for you. If you decide to sell on eBay on a full-time basis, you should probably register as a business.

Prepare Yourself.

There are going to be ups and downs when you sell on eBay. Don't pack it in if something goes a little wrong in your first few sales: the sellers who are successful on eBay are the ones who enjoy it, and stick at it whatever happens.

Anyone can sell on eBay, if they believe in themselves - and if you do decide it's not for you, then the start-up costs are so low that you won't really have lost anything.

If you've ever read an article about eBay, you will have seen the kinds of incomes people make - it isn't unusual to hear of people making thousands of dollars per month on eBay.

Next time you're on eBay, take a look at how many PowerSellers there are: you'll find quite a few. Now consider that every single one of one of them must be making at least $1,000 per month, as that's eBay's requirement for becoming a PowerSeller. Silver PowerSellers make at least $3,000 each month, while Gold PowerSellers make more than $10,000, and the Platinum level is $25,000. The top ranking is Titanium PowerSeller, and to qualify you must make at least $150,000 in sales every month!

The fact that these people exist gives you come idea of the income possibilities here. Most of them never set out to even set up a business on eBay - they simply started selling a few things, and then kept going. There are plenty of people whose full-time job is selling things on eBay, and some of them have been doing it for years now. Can you imagine that? Once they've bought the stock, everything else is pretty much pure profit for these people - they don't need to pay for any business premises, staff, or anything else. What's more, eBay doesn't care who you are, where you live, or what you look like: some PowerSellers are very old, or very young. Some live out in the middle of nowhere where selling on eBay is one of the few alternatives to farming or being very poor. eBay tears down the barriers to earning that the real world constantly puts up. There's no job interview and no commuting involved - if you can post things, you can do it.

Put it this way: if you know where to get something reasonably cheaply that you could sell, then you can sell it on eBay - and since you can always get discounts for bulk at wholesale, that's not exactly difficult. Buy a job lot of something in-demand cheaply, sell it on eBay, and you're making money already, with no set-up costs.

If you want to dip your toe in the water before you commit to actually buying anything, then you can just sell things that you've got lying around in the house. Search through that cupboard of stuff you never use, and you'll probably find you've got a few hundred dollars' worth of stuff lying around in there! History Of Ebay: The First 10 Years.

Yes, you read that correctly: ten years. eBay was created in September 1995, by a man called Pierre Omidyar, who was living in San Jose. He wanted his site - then called 'AuctionWeb' - to be an online marketplace, and wrote the first code for it in one weekend. It was one of the first websites of its kind in the world. The name 'eBay' comes from the domain Omidyar used for his site. His company's name was Echo Bay, and the 'eBay AuctionWeb' was originally just one part of Echo Bay's website at ebay.com. The first thing ever sold on the site was Omidyar's broken laser pointer, which he got $14 for.

The site quickly became massively popular, as sellers came to list all sorts of odd things and buyers actually bought them. Relying on trust seemed to work remarkably well, and meant that the site could almost be left alone to run itself. The site had been designed from the start to collect a small fee on each sale, and it was this money that Omidyar used to pay for AuctionWeb's expansion. The fees quickly added up to more than his current salary, and so he decided to quit his job and work on the site full-time. It was at this point, in 1996, that he added the feedback facilities, to let buyers and sellers rate each other and make buying and selling safer.

In 1997, Omidyar changed AuctionWeb's - and his company's - name to 'eBay', which is what people had been calling the site for a long time. He began to spend a lot of money on advertising, and had the eBay logo designed. It was in this year that the one-millionth item was sold (it was a toy version of Big Bird from Sesame Street).

Then, in 1998 - the peak of the dotcom boom - eBay became big business, and the investment in Internet businesses at the time allowed it to bring in senior managers and business strategists, who took in public on the stock market. Items that are regulated by the state or federal government are forbidden on eBay. These items include alcoholic beverages, weapons and firearms, all tobacco products, and both prescription and illegal drugs. There are small exceptions to this rule, however. If you have a collectable, such as a tin that contains tobacco, you may sell that item if the package has never been opened, and if you state the contents of the package are not meant for consumption. There are other conditions that must be met as well when selling these types of collectables.

Any type or breed of animal or reptile may not be sold through an eBay auction. This includes animals that were once living, and are now stuffed and mounted. This rule may also apply to items that are taken from endangered species, such as Ivory. When it comes to these types of items, when in doubt, don’t.

Tickets may be sold, but it is illegal to sell tickets for a higher price than you originally paid for them. This is called ticket scalping, and it is illegal. Lottery tickets are also banned from eBay auctions, as well as raffle tickets. Again, if you are not sure if your item is eligible for an eBay auction, either don’t put it up for auction, or contact eBay to get an answer one way or the other. Don’t risk breaking the law!
